The tree of Virgin Mary in Matareya, the church of Virgin Mary in Musturud,Roman fortress of Babylon,Hanging church, Church of Abuserga with the Holy Crypt, the Synagogue of Ben Ezra, the Coptic museum and the church of virgin Mary in Maadi. In the area of Matareya (El-Mataria,el-Matariya or Matareya) in Cairo stands the Virgin Mary’s Tree which is an old sycamore tree. This tree provided shelter for Holy Family during their stay in Egypt. This tree has been a destination for pilgrims for many centuries. The present tree grew from a shoot planted in place of the original tree but the tradition of the tree continues to live on. The original tree miraculously opened to give refuge for the Holy Family from two brigands pursuing them at the time.At the same spot baby Jesus created a welland the Holy Virgin Mary used its water to bathe Jesus, also balsam plant grew there. Musturud has the church of Virgin Mary, one of the places of shelter for Holy Family while in Egypt. It still has the cave and the well of the Holy Family. Overlooking the Nile in Maadi is a church of Virgin Mary that was built on the spot where the Holy Family crossed the Nile to the western bank in Giza. in 1976 a holy bible was carried by the water of the Nile to the bank below the church. It was opened to the page of Isiah 19:25 declaring, “Blessed be Egypt My People”. it is now preserved in a glass box inside the church. The area of old Cairo where you will see the remains of the Roman fortress of Babylon(1st century), and visit the hanging church of Virgin Mary(3rd century) built over the fortress tower, the church of Abu Serga(St. Sergio)(5th century) with Holy Crypt where the Holy Family stayed for 6 months and the Synagogue of Ben Ezra(9th century).
